August In The City 08-01-08
July 29, 2008 11:01 AM PDT
Well I am back after taking a month off from the podcast and have decided to post August's podcast a few days early. Thanks again to Datapusher for covering me last month. This month's downtempo podcast was inspired in part by my girlfriend's upcoming move to downtown Orlando. She found a killer deal on a "deluxe apartment in the sky," and, she is looking forward to being in the heart of the city. I must say that I am pretty excited too! It will be fun to get reacquainted with the city after living in the burbs for so long. There is so much more to Orlando than "a mouse." I am looking forward to seeking out some of the great food, music, and atmosphere that this city has to offer. It has been too long. This episode starts off with a couple of "trip hop" tunes and quickly gives way to some stylish chillout, samba, and bossanova... ah yes, the bossas are back! Enjoy.
Here is this month's tracklist... 01. Peter Bjorn & John- Young Folks

Well it looks like Datapusher over at Trans:verse Records must have enjoyed slowing down the tempo on his decks for the "Chill With The Chola" podcast because he has sent over a sequel to his Dubventure downtempo mix! This works out perfect for me because I would have really been pushing things to try to get a new podcast out by the ninth. Keep your eyes open for a set mid month by "yours truly," I will try my best to deliver one to you. If not, I will see you next month. This month's downtempo podcast is the second installment of Datapusher's wildly popular "Dubventure." There was a huge response to the first episode and I am glad that Datapusher has decided to put together another mix for us. It is another hard-hitting, IDM/ Electronica, bass heavy, intelligent-glitch experiment in to the world below 130bpm's. When I asked Datapusher to explain what he was shooting for with this set, he responded... This set reminds me of those "eyes-half-opened" after-parties spent in dark dens after a full night of clubbing. It is a moody journey in to the sofa surfing universe. Somewhere between full blown breaks or house music, and, what we might consider "downtempo," there is an extremely intelligent sub-genre of music created almost exclusively for "the transition." This music is not quite the club music that you were dancing to earlier in the evening, or, the more acoustic sub-genres of downtempo/ chillout that you want to enjoy when you awake, have a beer, and start that BBQ on a Sunday. However, it certainly serves a distinct purpose and there are some amazing artists working in this realm. This is a sub-genre of downtempo music that I hardly touch these days. Datapusher can still rock the dance floors, I stick to playing sets for the couches, dinners, and bedrooms. Datapusher starts his set off with an extremely "busy" set of tracks and slowly moves you towards a calmer place. When the set ends, the stereo almost begs you to wake up, put on some bossa, nujazz, or funk, and, get that BBQ started. Great job Datapusher! Enjoy, Here is this month's tracklist... 01. Woohoo! The last month has been a BUSY one! I finally got some time to put together this month's podcast over the weekend so, I just barely made my deadline. This month's downtempo podcast features NU Funk music from a variety of artists from around the world. While I was researching this month's selections, I was surprised to find out that Australia has a flourishing funk scene and artists that are regularly releasing awesome tunes. Check out some of the links in the tracklist for more info. Get ready to get funky, this set has some serious character, is super uplifting, and tons of fun. Enjoy! Here is this month's tracklist... This month I am kicking off a new idea for the "Chill with The Chola" podcast, an exclusive mix by a guest DJ released mid-month! While I do not plan for this to be a consistent thing, from time to time, I would like to feature guest DJ's by posting their mixes between regular episodes of the podcast. To get things started, my good friend Datapusher from Trans:verse Records and NuBreaks.com has dialed down the typical tempo on his decks to bring us an exclusive downtempo mix that he recorded live! As the title suggests, his set is an adventure in Dub, is beat driven, glitchy but intelligent, and bass HEAVY. This is something completely new for this podcast! Datapusher can be heard live online every Thursday from 8pm-10pm Eastern on NuBreaks.com and he also produces a podcast at http://datapusher.podomatic.com. Be sure to check him out! Attention all DJ's: If you would be interested in producing an exclusive DOWNTEMPO set for this show to be featured mid-month, please contact me via email at chola @ podomatic.com for more info. I'd like to send a special thanks out to Datapusher for taking the time to put this mix together! Here is the tracklist... Are you a downtempo connoisseur? This month's podcast is dedicated to the TextureDJs who produce one of my favorite podcasts anywhere, "Transatlantic Grooves." The TextureDJs play some of the most eclectic genres of music from brokenbeat, to jazz, to funk. Their sets seem to be somewhere between old and new, full of warm vintage charm, almost as if you were listening to your old 45's. Unfortunately the TextureDJs seem to be M.I.A. If you believe that imitation is the ultimate form of flattery, then lets continue! This month I have put together my own eclectic mix of old and new to come up with my own "vintage 45 sound." I have found some terrific brokenbeat, funk, and jazz as well as a couple of excellent mashups that will transport you back to more simple times. In fact, I even whipped together a couple mashups of my own for this one!" This show is all over the place, but, was quite fun to create and is bound to leave you with a smile on your face. Enjoy!
